LIGHTNING SPRINTS

Celebrating their 2016-17 season at last Saturday night’s annual presentation dinner at the Chermside Bowls Club, a number of Queensland Lightning Sprint drivers and club members were recognised for their efforts throughout the season.

Kurt Wilson

Topping off what was a stellar season, having successfully defended his Australian Title in April, after also going back to back in the NSW Title, Kurt Wilson’s season performance earned him the top spot in both the overall Queensland Club Championship and the A Grade Driver’s Championship, while a standout season for Jason Rae saw him finish runner-up in the Club Championship, ahead of a consistent Andrew Sparks.

Making selected appearances throughout the season and collecting a pair of consecutive feature-race wins, Dave Fanning was awarded second place in the A Grade Driver’s Championship, with fast-paced Kirsty Kelly placing third.

Racking up their second awards of the night, Rae and Sparks occupied first and second place in the B Grade Driver’s Championship, with impressive rookie Aaron Kelly completing the top-three, after what was a fantastic debut in the class, earning him Rookie of the Year honours

Picking up even more silverware, Sparks was named Diff Drive Champion and Rae was voted Most Improved Driver, with the latter also receiving the Driver’s Driver award, as voted by his peers.

A tie for the Best Presented Car award saw both Keith Blatch and Jason Busk claim the honours, with Blatch also tying with Logan Sparks for the Club Person of the Year award.
