LEGEND CARS

Off the back of reclaiming the ACT Title earlier this season, Glenn Mitchell continued his winning ways on Saturday night, delivering a commanding win in the Victorian Legend Car Title at Wahgunyah Speedway.

Mitchell had enjoyed pleasing form heading into Saturday night’s event, having won last month’s doubleheader at Bairnsdale and Rosedale Speedways, and collected his second ACT Title at Canberra’s ACT Speedway in February. Mitchell also recently finished fourth in the Australian Championship at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway and first in the Masters Class at the same event.

In what was his final 2016-17 season appearance and only his second visit to the Wahgunyah Speedway track, the former Queensland Title-holder was in dominant form from the outset, winning two of his three heat races and placing second in the other, before lining up in pole position for the Victorian Title-deciding feature race.

Immediately seizing the lead from the drop of the green flag, Mitchell couldn’t be stopped once out in front, going on to lead each of the 25 laps, before taking a comfortable win and clinching the Victorian Title crown in the process.

“I couldn’t be happier to have come away with the Victorian Title win, after what was a very enjoyable night all round,” said Mitchell, who contested a total of 15 race meetings throughout the 2016-17 season, after a late start to the season.

“The car felt good and we had a great run throughout qualifying, and then everything came together for us in the feature race. I have to congratulate Wahgunyah on a fantastic event. The track surface was very consistent and the overall meeting had a great atmosphere.

“I’m trying not to take racing too seriously these days and just enjoy myself, and the results are starting to come and I’m definitely enjoying my racing a lot more as a result.”

Leading up to the Victorian Title event, Mitchell spent the previous three weekends racing at six different tracks across both the speedway and tar circuit disciplines.

Mitchell would like to thank his valued 2016-17 season sponsor, Picton Hire, for their ongoing support. He would also like to give special thanks to his wife, Jo.
