LEGENG CARS

Making the decision to take his career to the next level, Glenn Mitchell is currently preparing to embark on an American racing campaign that will see him take part in the Legend Car Dirt Nationals, amongst numerous other events, against the world’s most skilled drivers.

This is not the first time that Mitchell has made the long trek to the land of the free, having done so on two previous occasions to participate in the Dirt Nationals, both of which produced pleasing results, with Mitchell placing an impressive fifth and third respectively.

Purchasing a Legend Car from American Corey Hansen in preparation for this season’s Dirt Nationals, which will take place at 141 Speedway in Maribel, Wisconsin from September 19 to 21, the Picton, NSW-based racer is hoping to continue his strong representation of Australia when he hits the track, aiming to come away with what would be his second podium result.

“Our past two trips to America have really laid the groundwork for this third visit, having met so many drivers and new friends who have been more than willing to help us out with the organising,” commented Mitchell, who will arrive in the States one week prior to the Dirt Nationals in order to complete a shakedown run in North Dakota to sort out car setup.

“It’s challenging to turn up to the race track and not have the all of the same resources you have when racing at home, but assistance from people such as Corey make it a lot easier and I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done for us.”

Meeting Hansen two years ago over a couple of beers after a race meeting in America, the pair kept in contact over the years, but it was when Hansen decided to sell his Legend Car that Mitchell decided on his next step, purchasing the car, which Hansen is in the process of painting in Mitchell’s familiar ‘sheriff’ scheme.

“Glenn is a great Aussie guy and really easy going, which has made this whole process very simple,” said Hansen, who has also offered Mitchell the use of his trailer and equipment, in addition to his assistance at race meetings.

“Since meeting Glenn a couple of years ago, we’ve stayed in touch and have become quite good friends, so I’m more than happy to help him out and make his American campaign a little bit easier. He’s done very well over here in the past, so it’ll be good to see what he can achieve this time around.”

Happy with the success he’s been able to achieve racing Legend Cars in Australia, Mitchell made the decision to give himself a new challenge, selling off all of his equipment in order to focus on his impending American venture.

“Legend Cars compete several times a week at tracks all over the country in America and the competition is extremely fierce, so I’m really looking forward to the change of pace and scenery,” added Mitchell, who will be joined by his wife Jo, who also thoroughly enjoys the American racing scene.

“I’ve always been interested in racing internationally and testing my skills as a driver against new rivals, so I’m very excited to focus more on that in future seasons.”

Following the Dirt Nationals in September, Mitchell plans to return to American next year for an extended stay, with the plan to increase his racing schedule.
