Last Saturday night saw the Super Rods in action at Hamilton’s Western Speedway for round one of the Western Cup and it was Jason Kavanagh who returned from retirement to take the win in the Grayland Racing machine, ahead of Shawn Duynhoven and Troy Gleeson.

The first heat of the night saw Duynhoven with the win ahead of Michael Coad and Gleeson home in third. Duynhoven took the double when he led home Paul Singleton and Kavanagh in the second heat. Heat two saw Sally Woolstencroft making heavy contact with the wall damaging the front axle, after having missed the first heat with fuel pump issues. Heat three saw an all the way win for Kavanagh when he led home Gleeson with Paul Verhoeven rounding out the top three.

It was Duynhoven and Kavanagh making up the front row and they were followed by Gleeson, Coad, Singleton, Verhoeven and Woolstencroft.

Kavanagh was able to make a clean get away from the start with Coad getting through to second position on the first lap, followed by Duynhoven and Gleeson. On lap three, Coad washed up to the wall allowing the cars of Duynhoven and Gleeson to move into second and third respectively. They continued to race in this order until the fall of the chequered flag with Kavanagh taking a comfortable win ahead of Duynhoven, Gleeson, Coad, Verhoeven, Singleton and Woolstencroft.

The Super Rod Association would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas with the next race meeting for Super Rods taking place at Laang Speedway on Wednesday, December 28 for round one of the Adzweld/M & P Wines Contracting Super Rod Shootout.
