Despite experiencing a difficult start to last Saturday night’s Queensland Late Model Title at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway, Darren Kane managed to overcome adversity, going on to claim the event for the third occasion in his career.

It certainly wasn’t an easy victory for Kane and the Ian Boettcher Race Parts team, having encountered misfortune during his opening heat race when he broke a differential on the penultimate lap. Lucky to come away with a fourth-place classified finish rather than a DNF, due to him enjoying a significant lead when disaster struck, Kane’s team launched a herculean effort to replace the differential prior to his second heat race, which saw him bounce back to claim the win, lining him up in fourth place for the 25-lap Queensland Title-deciding feature race.

Quickly making his way into third on the opening lap, Kane set about working his way towards the lead, taking over second place on lap eight, and then he seized control of the lead on lap 12. This was a position he retained through to the fall of the chequered flag to claim his third Queensland Title win of his career in the class, having previously won the 2014 and 2015 events.

“To win another Queensland Title is always a big thrill, not only for me, but my whole team, because this is our home state,” expressed the current NSW Champion, who also broke the one-lap track record with a 12.796 second lap during his opening heat race.

“It was a difficult start to the night with the differential failure, but the incredible effort put in by the whole team to replace it between the heat races was without a doubt one the keys to the night’s end result.”

This Queensland Title victory was Kane’s 11th of the 2016-17 season.

Now turning his attention back to Super Sedans for the month of April, Kane’s next appearance will be the Western Australian Title, which will be held over two huge nights of racing on the Saturday and Sunday nights of April 8 and 9 at Kalgoorlie International Speedway, where he will be hoping to steer his Qld # 36 Ian Boettcher Race Parts / Motorsport Fuels backed Dominator to victory, having previously won the 2012 running of the event, also at the Kalgoorlie venue.

The following weekend (April 14-16), Kane will head to Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway in Western Australia, where he will be looking to improve on his previous results to secure his third National Super Sedan Title of his career, after finishing third in the last three National Title events. Kane previously won the 2004 and 2009 National Titles at Murray Bridge Speedway (SA) and Lismore Speedway (NSW).
