LATE MODELS

Wrapping up the 2016-17 season in style, last Saturday night saw the NSW Late Models hold their annual presentation night at the Del Rio Riverside Resort in Wisemans Ferry, where many drivers and crew members received various spoils for their efforts.

After continuing to battle throughout the season, current South Australian and Victorian Champion Ben Nicastri managed to get the edge over Ryan Fenech to take out the overall United Acreage & Property Marketing Club Championship point score, regaining the top honours after having won the 2014 Club Championship. Defending champion Fenech was forced to settle for second, despite scoring a dominant victory in the penultimate round of the championship recently at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway.

A great debut season saw Brad Giffen impressively clinch third place in the Club Championship, while also being named Rookie of the Year (courtesy of American Tire & Racing Services), by virtue of delivering a consistent start to his Late Models campaign.

Veteran David Doherty, who previously won the 2014-15 season Club Championship, couldn’t have been happier to come away with the prestigious Driver’s Driver award, as voted by his peers, for constantly demonstrating great sportsmanship and a positive attitude throughout the season, while Dean Hickey was named Most Improved Driver (courtesy of Time Target).

The Hard Charger award (courtesy of Time Target) was presented to Joel Carrig, with Ross Nicastri picking up Crew Chief of the Year as a fitting testament to his continued hard work and dedication to the sport.

Daniel Moon was pleased to receive the Best Presented Car award (courtesy of Hoosier Australia), while Best Presented Crew (courtesy of 3-99 Motorsport) was awarded to Tim Bink.
