Last Saturday night at Murray Bridge Speedway saw Dave Gartner put in a dominant performance to claim his third South Australian Super Sedan Title win in a row, after what was an emotion-charged weekend.

Heading into the South Australian Title-deciding feature race as equal highest point scorer with Michael Miller, by virtue of a first and second-place finish in two his heat races, Gartner lost out in the coin toss to line up on the outside of the front row. Despite missing out on pole position, Gartner immediately took control of the lead and held on to it for the entire distance to take a convincing win on what were tricky track conditions.

For Gartner, this was his fifth career and third consecutive South Australian Title victory and he also set a new 30-lap track record in the process.

The win was made even more significant for Gartner, with the Mount Gambier-based racer tributing the victory to Bill Miller, a long-time rival in Super Sedans and friend, who recently passed away.

“We couldn’t have been happier to come away with yet another South Australian Title win and there was no better way to honour the memory of Bill Miller,” expressed the SA # 8 GT Bobcat / Castrol Oils supported Dominator driver, who the previous night finished second to Ryan Alexander in the Bill Miller Fireball Derby at Adelaide Motorsport Park, despite having raced limited shows this season, due to business commitments.

“It’s a great honour to share the podium with Michael and Ryan, who are two of the state’s best racers.

“This win is great for the confidence levels heading into the upcoming major events, as we’ve done limited racing this season and now we’re playing catch up.”

Off the back of his successful South Australian Title defence, it’s gearing up to be a busy end of the 2016-17 season for Gartner, who will be in the best form possible heading into his next event, which is set to be the Western Australian Title at Kalgoorlie International Speedway on April 7-9. Gartner will attempt to reclaim the Western Australian Title crown, after previously winning the 2015 running of the event at Mt Barker Speedway.

The following weekend, Gartner will hope to go one better in the National Title at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway on April 14-16, having finished runner-up on two previous occasions (2010 and 2016). A fortnight later (April 29), he will then travel to Rushworth Speedway to contest the Victorian Title.

Gartner would like to thank the following 2016-17 season sponsors: GT Bobcat, Gartner Transport, Castrol Oils, Gambier Equipment Sales, Maxwill Racing Engines, Dominator Race Cars, Skwid Signs, and Brims Coastal Cement. Special thanks go to Gartner’s hard-working crew Kristen Harris and Brett Watson, along with his family and friends.
