It was a hugely successful Easter long weekend for Dominator Race Cars, with five of Dominator drivers placing inside the top 10 in the National Super Sedan Title at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway.

Not only did Darren Kane steer his Qld # 36 Ian Boettcher Race Parts / Motorsport Fuels backed Dominator to a commanding victory to collect his third National Title crown, Dave Gartner (SA) delivered a great performance to claim the runner-up spot, ahead of Broome-based driver Phil Barton in fourth, Mick Nicola (Vic) in fifth and Warren Minshull, also from Broome, in sixth.

“To have five Dominator cars finish amongst the top 10 in a National Title is a great achievement and a real testament to the quality of these machines, as well as the drivers,” commented Ian Boettcher Race Parts General Manager David Knight.

“We feel very proud to have been able to play a part in the success of each of these drivers and we’re looking forward to seeing what else they can achieve moving forward.”

Qualifying ninth for the feature race, due to sustaining significant damage to his car and suffering a DNF in his opening heat race on night one of the National Title after being involved in a crash, Kane and his team were able to bounce back in spectacular fashion. Making his way into the lead by the middle stages, Kane set the pace once out in front, going on to take the well-earned win.

For the third time in his career and the second consecutively, current and three-time SA Champion Gartner charged his way forward from an 11th place starting position to finish an impressive second, while Barton drove a brilliant race and improved two places to finish fourth.

Next to greet the chequered flag was three-time National Champion Mick Nicola who dropped back one position after battling with his fellow Dominator pilots to finish fifth, with ex-WA Champion Warren Minshull coming home in sixth from third, having also been pipped by the other Dominator drivers.

In total, six Dominator drivers qualified inside the top 10 for the National Title-deciding feature race, with Ryan Alexander and Michael Miller locking out the front row, having been the form drivers all weekend. However, after hitting a rut and breaking a panard bar on the opening lap and almost rolling his car as a result, Miller was forced to retire to the infield as the race was brought back for a complete restart. While battling for the lead with Darren Kane after having led the feature race for 22 laps, Alexander’s night also ended prematurely when a pair of lapped cars spun in front of him on lap 23, giving him nowhere to go and causing him to sustain a buckled right rim while running second.

Proving the pace of the Dominator cars throughout the entire National Title event, 11 of the 16 heat races were won by Dominator drivers, with wins being shared between Nicola, Miller (x 3), Barton, Alexander (x 3), Kane (x 2), who was the only driver to crack into the 15 second bracket all weekend, and Minshull. Both Miller and Alexander finished almost 11 seconds clear of their nearest competitors on two occasions, with the gap being considerably smaller between the Dominator cars.

This Saturday night, Ian Boettcher Race Parts will hope to continue their successful streak, when seven Dominator drivers, in Kane, Gartner, Nicola brothers, Peter and Mick, Mick Nicola Jr. (Mick Nicola’s son), Gavin Northfield and Jack Childs, head to Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway to contest the 2016-17 NSW Title.
