STREET STOCKS

Thanks to delivering a strong and consistent performance throughout the 2016-17 season, Nathan Barbeler has joined both of his parents as a South Burnett Speedway Club Champion, taking out first place honours in the Street Stocks point score.

With his dad, David, having won the Club Championship numerous times throughout his career in Super Street Sedans and Modified Production Sedans in 2012, and his mum, Michelle, having created history when she became the first female to win a Club Championship in the Division 2 Street Sedan point score in 2006, Barbeler couldn’t have been happier to follow in his parents’ tyre tracks, achieving what has now become another career highlight for the 22 year old.

“My parents are huge supporters of my racing, so to be able to match their achievements by winning a Club Championship is an amazing feeling,” expressed Barbeler, who resides in Kingaroy with his family.

“We have a big connection with Kingaroy Speedway, being that it’s our home track, so for both myself and my parents to win the club’s biggest prize really means a lot to us all and I can’t thank my parents enough, along with my sponsors, for continuing to support me.”

Despite experiencing some mechanical issues earlier in the season, 2016-17 was hugely positive for Barbeler, who not only won his maiden Street Stocks feature race at Kingaroy Speedway, but also managed to take out the Central Queensland Title at Rockhampton’s Rocky Speedway in March.

Debuting his new VY Holden Commodore on home soil at the National Title, Barbeler was one of only two Queenslanders to qualify for the feature race, lining up 12th, before suffering an unfortunate DNF due to some teething issues with his steering rack.

Solving the problem following the National Title event, Barbeler’s fortune changed for the better, with the determined driver closing his season with a feature-race victory at Blackwater Speedway. In addition to the added confidence gained from his win, Barbeler also picked up valuable track time at the venue, which is set to host next season’s Queensland Title.

In the upcoming 2017-18 season, Barbeler and his team plan to do more travelling throughout Australia’s East Coast, contesting the National Title at Adelaide Motorsport Park, and the Queensland, South Australian and Victorian Titles, in addition to completing the full Kingaroy Speedway schedule.

“We’ve sorted out some problems with that car now and we’re confident that we can be consistently competitive next season,” added Barbeler.

“There’s still a lot to learn and I’m hoping that going up against the best drivers on the East Coast in the title events will give me some great experience and help me to hone my skills as a driver.”

Barbeler would like to thank the following sponsors for their valued support: South Burnett Transport, Kingaroy Equipment Sales, SB Windscreens, Edge Performance, A1 Race Car Fabrications, Razztech Motorsports and Smooth Suspension. Special thanks: mum and dad (Michelle and David).
