With the National 4s competition reaching a new level in Queensland, as evident in our top-five ranking, one driver in particular proves that New South Wales still has what it takes to go up against the Sunshine State.

1. Justin Weir (Qld)
To say that Weir’s first full season in National 4s was a positive one would be an understatement. The 22 year old achieved a major milestone earlier in the season when he delivered a faultless performance at Gympie’s Mothar Mountain Speedway to win the Queensland Title, in addition to a solid runner-up result in the NSW Title and second overall in the King of the Mountain Series.

2. Tim Weir (Qld)
Being forced to settle for second to Justin in the Queensland Title, while still achieving an impressive 1-2 finish for the family, Weir managed to get one back on his brother this season by taking out the King of the Mountain Series.

3. Benjamin Stead (Qld)
Burying his demons after experiencing a near career-ending crash at Lismore Speedway, Stead returned to the track this season to compete in the NSW Title, where his determination and hard work proved to be unbeatable, with the 23 year old coming away with a confidence-boosting win.

4. Darryl Oliver (Qld)
Consistency was key for the regular front-running contender this season, coming away with a string of impressive top-five finishes, including third in the Queensland Title, fourth in the King of the Mountain Series and fifth in the NSW Title.

5. Ed Newton (NSW)
The standout driver in NSW this season, there were moments when the Orange-based driver appeared untouchable, winning feature races at both Nowra Speedway and Cullen Bullen Raceway. Newton looked likely to win the Owen Campbell Memorial at Nowra in January, having led the feature race from the drop of the green flag, before limping to the infield with a flat right front tyre.
