STREET STOCKS

In what was only his third outing with the Patriot Motorsport team, Rhys Heinrich came away with his third feature-race victory with the team in last Saturday night’s final MJS Street Stocks Series round at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway, banking some valuable series points.

While the official final point standings for the MJS Series won’t be released until the presentation night on May 26, Heinrich’s win has certainly bolstered the Patriot Motorsport’s chances of achieving the overall top honours, with the team having been sitting amongst the top spots heading into last Saturday night’s event.

Having been fast at the Mildura track previously in his own car, Heinrich was hoping to capitalise on his experience; however, he certainly had his work cut out for him, being forced to battle the very wet track conditions.

Displaying solid pace from the outset aboard the Reg and Kat Corbett-owned Leeton # 11 Arnolds Fruit Market / LA Racing Lubricants supported FG Ford Falcon, Heinrich came away with a win in his opening heat race, followed by a runner-up finish in his final heat race, putting him equal highest in points with Anthony Beare and Jayden Edwards.

Starting from pole position for the feature race after recording the fastest lap of the trio in the heat races, it was a disjointed start to the race with a couple of first-lap stoppages, but when the 30-lap distance finally got underway, it was Heinrich who took control of the lead.

With the track beginning to get better, Heinrich was unstoppable throughout the race, which ran the full 30 laps in one direction, rather than changing direction at the 15-lap mark, coming home in first place and closing the Patriot Motorsport team’s MJS Series campaign in the best possible fashion.

“So far, the Patriot Motorsport team and I have experienced a pleasing run together and it was great to be able to continue that last Saturday night by winning the final MJS Series round,” expressed the Loxton, South Australia-based resident.

“The MJS Series is some of the toughest competition that Australian Street Stocks have to offer, which is a real testament to the Buchanan family who organise it. To be in contention for the overall series win is a huge achievement and I’m pleased to have been a part of it.”

For their next appearance, Patriot Motorsport will be back in action this Saturday night at Leeton’s Brobenah Raceway, where past team driver Jacob Mills will be battling it out in the NSW Title. On the Saturday night of May 12, Heinrich will be back in the driver’s seat for the annual Top Gun event, once again at Timmis Speedway.
