MODIFIED SEDANS

This season has been something of a Cinderella story for Tim Weir and his car owner David Clarkson, which reached its peak during last Saturday night’s Queensland Modified Sedan Title at Gympie’s Mothar Mountain Speedway, with the unsuspecting pair clinching what was well and truly and upset victory.

While they’ve experienced a number of strong performances so far this season in the handful of race meetings they’ve contested together, including qualifying into the feature races during both the National Title and the Kings Royal, Weir and Clarkson had been yet to taste success aboard the Qld # 58 Clarko’s Performance supported XF Ford Falcon – a much older make of car than the majority of their rivals.

Heading into the Queensland Title at the Gympie venue, which Weir considers to be his home track, also being a part of the track’s promotion team, Weir was hoping to use his knowledge of the track to his advantage; a plan that proved to work wonders for him.

Collecting two wins, a second and a third-place finish in his heat races, Weir banked enough points to earn a front-row start for the Queensland Title-deciding feature race, lining up alongside pole-sitter and defending champion Aidan Raymont.

Slipping back to third place on the opening lap, it wasn’t until three quarters through the scheduled 40-lap distance that Weir would return to second place as Mark Raymont was relegated to the rear of the field. Making the most of several ensuing restarts, Weir managed to pip Aidan Raymont for the lead with just four laps remaining, going on to claim what was a thrilling victory for both himself and his team.

“We’ve already had quite a lot to celebrate during our five race meetings together, but winning the Queensland Title has certainly taken us to the next level,” commented Weir.

Extremely grateful for the support that Clarkson has shown him this season, Weir was quick to pay homage to his car owner.

“I can’t thank David enough for giving me the opportunity to race his car and for backing me 100 percent,” he added.

“This season has proven to us that despite having a much older make of car, there’s still a lot for us to achieve. I’m looking very forward to seeing what the future holds for our small team.”
