STREET STOCKS

There is no doubt that Brad McClure is one of the country’s leading Street Stock drivers, and earlier this month at Swan Hill’s Sonic Speedway, he proved that once again by claiming his third Victorian Title win in the class and also ended his major-event winning drought.

IBRAC 10128 TotallySpeedwayQtrPageNovember2013After recently finishing second behind Anthony Beare in the Australian Title, McClure was on a mission to claim another Victorian Title win.

McClure’s victory came after he had qualified for the 35-lap feature race on pole position, and then he went on to pace the field for the entire journey. Despite the feature race being punctuated by stoppages, McClure was never challenged after powering away at every restart.

At the fall of the chequered flag, he downed a fast finishing Mick Dann in second and Morris Ahearn in third. The latter put in a career-best drive to claim a spot on the podium – the first time he has achieved such a result in a major event. Another highlight for Ahearn from the weekend was winning the best presented car award.

Daniel Drewett, Mick Clark, Steven Watts, Jason DeGoldi, Richard Bansemer, Ricky Throckmorton and Stu Robinson completed the top-10 finishers. Bansemer put in a solid performance over the weekend to qualify fifth for the feature race and then go on to finish in eighth. Both Watts and Robinson achieved their impressive hard-charging drives to finish inside the top 10 after qualifying via the B main.

Beare, who was running second behind McClure in the latter stages, was forced into retirement due to mechanical woes. As a result it ended Beare’s attempt to capture five consecutive Victorian Titles.

Having not won a major Street Stock event since the 2011 Australian Title at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway, McClure was pleased to get that winning feeling at a major event (either state or national title).

“In recent seasons, I haven’t had much luck at the major events, so it’s a great feeling to get back into the Victorian Title winner’s circle,” expressed McClure.

“Without my team and all of my sponsors, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy racing, and I dedicated this win to them, because I can’t thank them enough for everything they do
