JUNIOR STANDARD SALOONS

There was one thing that Dylan Pendlebury credited to his victory in last weekend’s Victorian Junior Standard Saloon Title win at Drouin Speedway, and that was persistence.

With only a handful of laps to go, Pendlebury was able to benefit from a slight error from Young when he drifted wide as they were negotiating through lapped traffic and took over the lead and went on to win.

“I knew that if I could stay with Donald (Young) and keep the pressure on him, then I would put myself in a good chance to win,” explained a jubilant Pendlebury, who drives an XF Ford Falcon.

“When Donald drifted wide, I was able to get the run on him and move into the lead, and it was my persistence to stay with him that rewarded me with the opportunity to not only take the lead but the win.”

In what was a strong drive behind winner Pendlebury, Liam ‘Bear’ Powell crossed the finish line in second, while a dejected Young finished back in third. The latter had put in an awesome drive for the majority of the feature race, but a mistake in the closing stages denied him of the win. Ty Hutton and Ally Morrison completed the podium in fourth and fifth place respectively.

The Victorian Title was scheduled to be run earlier in the season; however, the feature race was postponed due to dust issues. The feature race was rerun last weekend in its entirety. One driver who wasn’t able to take part in the re-run was Cooper Cappellari. The Mount Beauty-based racer was leading at the time it was stopped, but chose not to come back for the re-run due to budget restraints.
