SPEEDWAY KARTS

Troy Carey is set to create history later this week (Tuesday and Wednesday night of May 23 and 24 - USA time), when he becomes the first Australian driver to contest the annual $30,000 to win QRC Speed 51 Open event for the Outlaw Kart class.

To be held at the Millbridge Speedway in North Carolina, the QRC 51 Open is regarded as the largest event in America for Outlaw Karts, and Carey, from Tullamore in western NSW, is excited about being a part of the event.

“It’s a great honour to be the first Australian to contest this event,” said Carey, who is a regular front-runner in the Wingless Sprint class back in his home country of Australia.

“The QRC 51 Open attracts drivers from all over the country across a range of disciplines, including NASCAR, and I can’t thank my Outlaw Kart owner Peter Shepherd enough for making all of this possible.”

Recently, Carey made his Outlaw Kart debut at Millbridge Speedway and showed plenty of pace. This experience is going to help him when he tackles the QRC 51 Open and his only goal is to try and qualify into the A main.

Last week, Carey made his Midget debut. This took place at Grain Valley Speedway (MO), where he drove for Johnny Murdock. Carey showed good pace from the outset by finishing his heat race in second. Starting the A main from position three, he went on to finish in fifth place.
